I just backed the GURPS Ring of Fire roleplaying world book on BackerKit. Produced by Steve Jackson Games and a crew of regular writers from Eric Flint’s. shared world known as the “1632” universe or, often, the “Ring of Fire” universe, the book provides roleplaying rules for game campaigns set in the 1632 universe.
As of when I backed it, they were seeking 15K but had gotten pledges for 88K instead, coming from 1060+ backers. And I’m proud to be one of them.
Here’s the description of the the RPG book from BackerKit:
Today, Grantville . . . Yesterday, the World!
In the year 2000, the whole town of Grantville, West Virginia, found itself encircled by a mysterious ring of fire, transported to 1630s Germany . . . and determined to change the world.
Eric Flint’s collaborative Ring of Fire series – with its tales of castaways in time making the most of a one-way trip to the 1630s – has encompassed hundreds of books, anthologies, and magazines, making it the largest alternative-history setting yet created. Now it ventures into a new frontier: the gaming table.
GURPS Ring of Fire is both an exciting setting to explore and an invaluable resource for fans of the book series. With contributions by Ring of Fire authors, it presents:
The alternate history, including a timeline from 1632-1637.
Descriptions for dozens of interesting individuals and nine famous organizations.
Character-creation rules for unlimited possibilities to explore this new frontier.
Maps of important locales, including Grantville and beyond.
Key equipment, weapons, and vehicles, plus a system for copying or reinventing up-time gear.
And much more!
With GURPS Ring of Fire, tomorrow may be a memory, but today is what you make it!
I pledged for the hardcover Ring of Fire RPG book, which is also accompanied by a PDF of the book. The book provides information about running rolplaying games in the 1632 universe, including special rules for that world, i.e. – mostly tech level 4, but with a scattering of tech level 8 items from the future.
To run the games, you’ll need the latest edition of the GURPS 4th edition rules, which you could also get at various pledge levels. I didn’t go for those because I already have the (unrevised) rules and am an experienced GURPS gamemaster, so I didn’t feel the need to purchase those at this time.
I’m looking forward to receiving the book. They should be shipping it sometime in April 2027..
