Friday’s Film Vault: Godzilla Minus One

Godzilla on the Loose

I saw “Godzilla Minus One” last weekend at the theater with my brother. It’s a 15-million-dollar Godzilla movie featuring Japanese actors and subtitles. Oh, and it’s a historical drama, set right after World War II.

Best movie I’ve seen all year. Easily the best Godzilla film ever. A great monster film. And, honestly, just a good film. The most interesting thing is that it’s a character drama rather than a CGI slugfest, and distinctly and culturally Japanese while still being completely relatable.

Because it’s a foreign film with subtitles, it’s unlikely that lots of people will view it here in America during its run. That’s a tragedy.

Go see it.

You won’t be sorry.
